By opening a container, left in the care of her husband, Pandora released physical and emotional curses upon mankind.

To understand what happens inside an enclosure, it is vital to understand how the drive unit works.

The motion of the diaphragm is what creates the sounds that we hear.

Obviously the forward motion projects the sound towards the listener.

However, there is a return movement from the diaphragm. This produces airwaves inside the enclosure.

Nature has resolved many more problems than humankind can ever think of.

An ellipsoidal enclosure reduces the internal reflections by channelling the internal waves through the rear.

Nature has not produced the cuboid enclosure.

Why should we?

Separation

We need to understand the components of a loudspeaker.

The picture shows the three main components of a loudspeaker.

The Crossover, the Tweeter, and the Woofer.

Most commonly, they are housed in the same enclosure.

Using simple isolation means that the woofer can move without having any influence over the behaviour of the tweeter.
